Reflections on the Jamboree Model UN
Contingent Member Rollin “RJ” Jackson from US unit 318 attended the Model UN program, representing Iran. Afterward, he shared his thoughts and photos from the event with us. See more of Rollin photos on our Facebook page.
Before the jamboree, as I was preparing my countries profile, I realized that I needed to have an “open mindset” for going into the two and a half day program. I had no idea what to expect but knew that I wanted to come out of the program with a larger outlook on the world. When I arrived to the first day of the program, every member of the UN, welcomed each other with open arms. We were all coming from different countries and representing different countries. Every member of the UN was very respectful of each other, our cultural differences and opinions. That is what the World Scouting movement is about.
During the two and a half days, we debated current issues from our countries and worked together to come up with resolutions for our specific country-based issues.
Model UN has taught me how to have fun learning about different cultures and how we can respect each other in everything that we do. As we go on in life, we should remember one thing that we all have in common. We are all scouts and we should show the world that respect for ourselves and others can help us do great things in the world. The world is a big and beautiful place with beautiful people, cultures, and communities. We are the change that the world needs.
